Suhani dropped Mahira off at school, kissing her forehead as the little girl skipped away with her bag bouncing behind her. The morning sun was soft, gold spilling over the school gate...but inside Suhani, something felt heavier, darker.
As soon as Mahira disappeared inside, Suhani exhaled and turned toward her car. Her fingers trembled on the steering wheel. She sat there for a few seconds...five, maybe ten...watching other parents drive away, pretending for a moment that she could too.
